Former Senator JV Ejercito advised parents that they still need to comply with Republic Act 11229 or Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act. The said law requires children 12 years and under to use a car seat inside the vehicles.

According to Ejercito, who was the main author of the said law, parents who do not own a car need a car seat if they board a taxi and transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS).

“Siguro ‘pag meron kayong sanggol, mas maganda meron na rin ho kayong car seat,” said Ejercito. “Siyempre hindi naman natin siguro mai-eexpect na ang mga taxis ay meron silang car seat.” he added.

The price of car seats in the market is now around 2,000-30,000. Ejercito said only taxis and TNVS need to use a car seat because the DOTr is still studying how to implement it in jeepneys, buses and other public vehicles.

Under the law, vi0lators can pay a fine of up to P5,000 and a license suspension. The said law became controversial and it was fl0oded with complaints from netizens because some of them don't know where to buy a car seat.

As a result, the senate urged the Land Transportation Office (LTO) not to implement the said law first. It is said that the public was not given enough time to prepare for the said law.

The LTO, on the other hand, agreed that they will not fine those who do not follow the car seat law and that they will only remind them.
