Trillanes: "There is hope! Duterte's Numbers are Down Significantly."

In his social media account, Former R3bel and Former Senator Antonio Trillanes said that the ratings of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has been down significantly.

“The Magdalo group’s periodic in-house survey results are in and duterte’s numbers are down significantly. There is hope!” said Trillanes.

And in a separate post, Trillanes said that they are behind Vice President Leni Robredo for the 2022 election. “#LabanLeni! We are united behind you! #Halalan2022” added Trillanes.

It will be recalled that Trillanes had previously said that President Duterte's rating would drop in the surveys but by the end of the President's term, his rating is still high when it comes to surveys.

Here is the conversation between Trillanes and Mr. Stephen Sackur in 2017 where the senator said President Duterte’s rating would drop. Sackur is the host of the Hard Talk program.

MR. SACKUR: It’s not easy for me to judge but looking at the comments made by members of the public in Manila to news agencies, they’re saying things like “public streets are safer now; here in the Philippines we needed a ruler with an iron fist.” These are quotes from the general public. That seems to be the mood that ratings for Duterte still remain high, 75% approval rating. I’m just wondering whether your comments, which are constantly negative, are out of tune with ordinary Filipino opinion.

Trillanes: Well, the numbers that you mentioned are the latest numbers way back in March. But if you look at where his numbers were when he assumed office, it went as high as 92%. So in less than a year, it went down by 17% points, and I believe, the numbers in June, would be much w0rse –

R. SACKUR: Believe me, Senator, if a Western politician could command 75% approval rating, they would regard that as the happiest day of their life, believe me.

Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles commented on what Trillanes said. According to the lawyer, Trillanes had previously said that President Duterte's rating would drop in the surveys but the opposite happened.

“Inayos mo na ba yung bolang kristal mo? Kasi last time sinabi mong magiging less than 50% approval or trust rating ni PRRD. Tapos tumaas pa to 91 percent,” said Atty. Trixie.
