Controversy is now rife with one of the most popular internet celebrities in the world, Nuseir Yassin or better known as Nas Daily after he was crit1cized by the granddaughter of famous Kalinga Tattoo Artist Apo Whang-Od.

In a Facebook post, Grace Palicas crit1cized Nas for allegedly using the culture of the so called mambabatok or tattoo artists of Kalinga to make money for his company ‘Nas Academy’.

Nas Academy was created by Yassin in 2020 to teach netizens various skills through online classes they offer on the website.

One of these is what Whang-Od is supposed to teach in her online class where netizens will learn how to be a mambabatok. But the course offered by Nas Daily is not free because it costs 750 pesos in exchange for what Whang-Od, who is now 104 years old, allegedly knows.

“Prepare to learn a 1000-year-old art form from the last Kalinga tattoo artist in the world: Whang-od. This 104-year-old legend will reveal all her rituals, tools and methods for making traditional tattoos. All packed in a course that’s unlike anything we’ve ever done before!” according to the sign-up page of the course.

Whang-Od’s granddaughter didn’t like this and she immediately crit1cized Nas and his academy. According to her, her grandmother did not sign any contract to earn from her knowledge as a tattoo artist.

“WARNING!!! Whang Od Academy is a sc@m. My grandmother did not sign any contract with @NasDaily to do any academy. Some people are taking advantage of our culture. PLEASE HELP US STOP this d1srespect to the legacy of Apo Whang Od and the Butbot Tribe,” said Grace.

She also allegedly talked to her grandmother about it and said that her grandmother did not understand anything while she was being filmed for Nas Academy. It is also possible that the members of Nas Academy paid for it but it did not reach to Whang Od.

“Whang Od Academy is not real. I spoke to her and she said she did not understand what the translators were saying. Am sorry to tell you she will not be joining the @nasdaily. I know you have good intentions of sharing our culture to the next generation. However our village concern is that some people are profiting our art and culture. I know you spoke to someone and gave some money and will share profits, but Apo Whang Od is not aware of your contract.”

Some netizens said that some foreigners only use Filipinos to make money. “Matagal na nya tayo ginagamit. From Pinoy-baiting, meddling in our politics and now this? Medyo garapal na masyado“ according to one netizen.

It will be recalled that Yassin became controversial because of his message to Filipinos when he was featured in Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho. “I think you should get @ngry to fix things. There’s a lot of things that need to be fixed, so be more @ngry. Just screams and—scream and unite,” Yassin said on social media that some netizens did not like.
