“Wouldn’t it be cool if a President defends his title?” — Coach Freddie Roach

Even the longtime national fist trainer of Manny Pacquiao seems excited about the possibility of running for the top government position next year.

In an interview with FightHubTV on August 6, Roach shared what he can say about the boxing champion's plan to run as President of the Philippines.

He also joked that if Pacquiao wins his fight today and he wins in 2022, the public might recognize a President who is defending his boxing title. “I tease Manny sometimes. I ask him, ‘Are you going to run for president?’ He never tells me ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ He’s just like, he smiles at me. if you win this fight and you become president, I said, wouldn’t it be pretty cool if a president defends his title?” according to Roach.

But Roach knows that it is impossible for Pacquiao to f1ght if he already sits in Malacañang. “I’d have to fill out a waiver, because you’re not allowed to hit the president,” laughed Roach.

The coach also expressed concern that Pacquiao's money might run out because of his generosity to the poor.

“Hopefully he’ll be president by then and not spend all his money on the poor people. Because I do worry about Manny going broke sometimes because he does spend all his money on poor people. He helps them out as much as he can, but sometimes we spend more than we have. But he’s happy with that. He’s given to the poor.” added the legendary boxing trainer. “He remembers when he was one of those people. He was one of those poor people, he had nothing, he ran away from home because his father ate his dog. That story is really crazy. We’ll leave it there.” he continued.

Pacquiao is currently preparing for his f1ght with Yordenis Ugas. The Pambansang Kamao's fist f1ght with Errol Spence Jr. did not pursue because of Spence's damaged eye.
