It will be recalled that Robredo's opp0nent in presidential race is Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno who is now the leader of Aksyon Demokratiko Party. “I thank my party mates at Aksyon for having accepted me in their ranks and supporting my candidacy for the senate in 2019. They have my upmost regard and respect,” said Hilbay in his initial message.
Hilbay also clarified that he will not move to another party, but he will support Robredo's campaign. “I am leaving Aksyon not to join another party, but out of ethical considerations. I respect the decision of my party to choose Mayor Isko Moreno as a candidate for president, but also believe VP Leni is a much better candidate in this most crucial elections.” explained the lawyer.
Hilbay added that he does not like politicians who only do "publicity stunts" so he prefers to support Robredo. “I choose Leni Robredo because she has been more presidential than the current one.” he added.
