A priest is ready to allegedly s@crifice his position just to have a ‘sensible’ leader of the country. In his Facebook post, Father James Uy-Gascon said that people should not go to church if the person they support is not a sensible candidate. Even he is willing to leave his friends if they do not vote sensibly. 

“This coming elections, itataya ko ang pagka-pari ko. Kung di kayo buboto sa matinong kandidato, wag na kayong magsimba. Pa lector-lector pa sa simbahan, pa quote-quote pa ng bible. Tapos susuporta sa dem0nyo? Anong klase kayo.” according to Uy-Gascon. “At handa na rin akong mawalan ng kaibigan kung ganyan din lang.” he added.

 

In his Facebook posts, it can be seen that he is a supporter of Vice President Leni Robredo who is now running for the presidency. He said in one of his posts that he admires what Robredo is doing despite her limited budget.

“For the record. Ni minsan, di ko isunulat sa FB ang mga katagang “IBOTO SI LENI!” Ngayon lang, hehe. Una, pinaglalaban ko ang values ng ebanghelyo. Kakahiya sa students ko, itinuturo ko ‘choose good, avoid ev1l’ pero ako mismo di ko tinutupad. Pero, sa aking pagninilay, hindi rin naman ako perpekto, lalong hindi insekto (chinoy po ako), si Leni ang kandidatong may pinakamalinis na record (sabi sa Bikol ‘daeng digta’) ng pagserbisyo, ERGO, siya ang napupusuan kong iboto.” the priest said.

 

Gascon's messages on his posts received mixed reactions on social media. Some criticized the priest and called him "t0xic". “Imagine a member of the Catholic clergy spewing ven0m and t0xicity because of politics.” according to the radio host Mark Lopez.

The priest did not respond to the crit1cism he received on social media.
