Senator Leila De Lima requested that she be able to sh0ot her political advertisement inside her cell in preparation for her re-run for the senate in 2022.

According to De Lima's camp, they need three days to be able to obtain the campaign materials that De Lima will use. “This request is absolutely necessary to give full meaning the electoral process, as these photographs and videos will be used for the candidacy of accused De Lima,” according to the senator's camp.

 

But the Department of Justice (DOJ) blocked the said request and said De Lima could not be treated differently from the other detainees. “For this reason alone, @ccused De Lima cannot and must not be treated differently from any other @ccused. She may occupy an ex@lted position in society, but this does not entitle her to special treatment,” according to the DOJ comment they forwarded to Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 256.

The DOJ also said that the Supreme Court itself said that what De Lima's camp wanted was not possible. “The Supreme Court made it clear that all pris0ners cannot be allowed to practice their profession, their civil and political rights are restricted and regulated. Thus, to allow @ccused De Lima to enjoy the privileges accorded to upright candidates would be the height of unfairness and partiality,” according to the motion for reconsideration.

 

So far, De Lima's camp has not responded to the DOJ's blockade of their request. It will be recalled that she has been inside the PNP Custodial Center for four years due to many @ccusations against her.
