‘Pambabast0s’ — Hindi nagustuhan ni Sen. Nancy Binay ang ginawang desisyon ng Bangko Sentral na baguhin ang disenyo ng 1,000 peso bill

Senator Nancy Binay did not like the decision made by the Central Bank of the Philippines (BSP) to change the design of the 1,000 peso bill.

It will be recalled that the BSP announced a new design of P1,000 which will replace the three heroes of the second world w@r, José Abad Santos, Vicente Lim, and Josefa Llanes Escoda, with the image of the Philippine Eagle.

According to Binay, this is a big insult to the families of the said heroes so he called the attention of Congress to act on the said decision of the BSP.

“Maybe the design of money should not be decided by BSP alone. Even changes in names of schools and roads need to have congressional imprimatur. Why must the BSP be exempted?” said Binay. Redesigning our money should have the concurrence of Congress and the NHCP because it has relevance and implications in history, and there’s a higher purpose to what image or content should be printed on notes and coins,” she added.

“The heroes were removed for the eagle? Sadly, it is like saying that our martyrs and heroes are no longer worth our money,” she continued.

According to Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate, said it is possible that changing the design of P1,000 is a way to change the country's history.

In a report, the relatives of the children of Escoda, Lim and Santos expressed their disappointment. According to them, it looks like their ancestors di3d again because of what the BSP did.

“It’s more p@inful than what the Japanese did because the ones that are redesigning the banknote are Filipinos,'” said Josefa Escoda's relative.

So far, the BSP has not made a statement about the issue.
