Unli rice no more?

Presidential Aspirant and Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno wants Filipinos to reduce their rice consumption so that the Philippines will not buy too much rice abroad.

If he is lucky enough to be elected, Moreno will encourage people to imitate the Koreans and Japanese who do not consume too much rice.

He also said that eating too much rice is bad for the health. According to a study by the Philippine Statistical Authority (PSA), 93% of the Filipinos eat rice every day.

The mayor believes that if Filipinos prefer to eat vegetables, there will be no need for the Philippines to import. “If we change the habit of eating by providing more affordable vegetables, if we are going to lower the consumption of rice per capita, hindi natin kailangan mag-import ng mag-import,” explained Moreno. He also said that he will give priority to the farmers in the country.

The mayor also plans under his administration to serve more rice than vegetables in public schools. In order to make vegetables cheaper, the mayor will also take care of the agriculture in the country.
