On February 26, Bello called Duterte's absence from the CNN Philippines debate a c0wardice. “I’m really terribly sorry that Mayor Duterte is not here to face the people. She is a c0ward just like Bongbong Marcos is a f**k1ng c0ward. I would love to debate her.” according to Bello.
He also said that the combination of Duterte and presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos is allegedly the w0rst thing that has happened in the country's politics.
“The Marcos dynasty and Duterte dynasty, we’re seeing how they represent really the greatest ev1l of the political system that we have.” said Bello. “Which is very important for our people, if you really want to oppose political dynasties, here [are] the two [dynasties] that they boast-the south and the north will get together to eat up the Philippines,” he added.

So far, Duterte has not responded to Bello. It will be recalled that there was also a heated exchange of messages between Duterte and Bello back then about the mandatory military service that the mayor will promote in case she is elected as vice president.
“I truly hope that our youth do not grow up to be a Walden Bello — an ungrateful citizen who sleeps peacefully at the comfort of their homes, unable to say a prayer or a silent ‘thank you’ to the men and women who became martyrs while countering vi0lent extr3mism, insurg3ncy, and terr0rism.” said Duterte.
