"That song reminds me of my late son who had Down Syndrome" — Panelo, binigyan ng permiso ng Viva Records na kantahin ang awitin ni Sharon

Senatorial candidate Salvador “Sal” Panelo gave his response after Megastar Sharon Cuneta crit1cized him for singing her hit single ‘Sana’y Wala ng Wakas.’

In his Facebook post, Panelo l@mented on Cuneta's reaction where the megastar forbade him to sing her songs. According to Sharon, it is only for the campaign rallies of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan that her song can be used.

Panelo explained that he liked Cuneta's song because he remembered what he did to take care of his late son Carlo who has Down Syndrome. Carlo passed away in 2017 at the age of 27 years.

The lawyer also could not understand why some did not like his singing which he did not do to earn money. “I’m sorry she feels that way. It’s one of my favorite songs because it reminds me of the great lengths I took to care for my late son, Carlo who had Down Syndrome. I honor him each time I sing the song.” said Panelo.

 

“I also thought I was paying homage to the composer, the late Willy Cruz and of course, to Ms. Sharon Cuneta, by singing it. I wasn’t profiting from it, and certainly not trying to get elected by singing it. I was just trying to entertain the people who took time out of their busy lives to see and listen to us. I don’t understand what’s so offensive about that.” he added.

Panelo also talked to Viva Records and gave him permission to sing Cuneta's song so he won't stop singing it. “In any case, I did reach out to the copyright owner, Viva Records, and they’ve confirmed that I have permission to sing the song.” said the former spokesperson of President Rodrigo Duterte “I will continue to sing it, and will now use it to raise awareness for the plight of children with special needs. As the song goes: ‘Kahit ilang awit ay aking aawatin, hanggang ang himig ko’y maging himig mo na rin.’” he added.

Panelo, on the other hand, promised that he will push measures that will provide assistance to people with special needs such as his late son.

 

Cuneta has not yet responded to Panelo's post. It will be recalled that the Megastar released her controversial statement against Panelo. “Nanang ko pls lang nakakahiya naman samin ni Willy Cruz! You are not allowed to use our song! Don’t mess with a classic.” said Cuneta. “I allow its use only for Leni-Kiko! LOL. Utang na loob baka bumangon si Willy, nakakahiya naman samin! Kinilabutan ako in a bad way!” she added.
