Lacson: "Hindi na dapat Manghimasok ang Malacanang sa Senate Hearing"

In a public address on January 4, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte war*ned the senate on a hearing in which the Presidential Security Group (PSG) will be summoned to explain their vaccination of the anti-covid vaccine that has not yet been approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

President Duterte said that there will be a crisis between the legislature and the executive if the senate or congress chooses to investigate the issue with the Presidential Security Group.

“So huwag mo silang pakialaman because they’re… Two things may happen: I will ask them to sh*t up and not to answer any question, and I’m not thr3atening, please do not cite them in contempt by detaining them, I will not allow it. Pupunta ako diyan sa Congress, kukunin ko sila. Masyado kayong maa-ano eh. ‘Pag ginawa ninyo ‘yan, there will be a little crisis. Nasa inyo. Ako, I am prepared. I am preferred — preferred — prepared to defend my s0ldier. I will not allow them for all of their good intentions to be bru*talized in a hearing tapos kung ano-ano… Why do you — why do you thr3aten a person with inv3stigation just because he had something to protect himself for after all until now it is March to March, March pa is the earliest. Senator Ping Lacson, on the other hand, commented to the President's statement. Lacson said that President Duterte should not immerse himself in the work of the senate.

“Ibabalik natin sa Malacañang ‘yung panghihimasok na issue. Hindi na dapat manghimasok ‘yung Malacañang sa tungkulin ng Senado o ng kongreso na kuing kami ay may pagdinig, uubra na kami ay magpatawag ng resource person,” said Lacson.

 

Senator Dik Gordon also earlier reacted to what the president said. According to the senator, the President should respect the "separation of powers". He also said that he is worried about President Duterte's actions because the President seems acting like mayor.

“He is behaving as a mayor. He is protecting his people… I was disturbed by it quite frankly… The President has got to respect the separation of power clause… To shackle the Senate or Congress on what it is supposed to do is wrong of the President”
