Political Science Professor Clarita Carlos believes that People Power cannot be considered a ‘revolution’ that took place in 1986 that resulted in the fall of the Marcos administration.

In an interview with her in 2021, Carlos explained that nothing has changed in the country since EDSA 1 so it should not be considered a revolution.

“When you are a scholar, we are using the proper word to define particular incid3nt or events and when the moment you label it promptly that people have expectations, ginamit mo ‘yung revolution e,” said Carlos. “After 1986 they were looking for change, why they didn’t see any change, the structures are still the same.” she added.

Carlos believes that the said constitution should be changed only because it is no longer relevant to the current era. “That 1987 constitution should go,” said Carlos “Punong puno siya ng tanikala na mismong tayong g*g* ang nagtali sa sarili natin. Times has changed.”

Jell B. Morales: The legal luminary is entitled to her opinion other legal luminaries and historians have their own take of what has happened. If it was a mere casual event, it should have not just taken such political course. It has changed the political landscape. Anti Marcos sentiments were driven by the family's accumulation of abus1ve power and wealth which like Shah of Iran, Nicaragua's Anastacio Somoza and others did during their time. You do not have to destr0y in order to build. Is bl00dshed consistent to a bl00dy revolt? What about peaceful changes espoused by the likes of Gandhi? I guess revolutions have their way of defining their motives. It would be exciting if such topics can be discussed also by other historians that have authority on these matters. Political analysts and historians worldwide were all amazed with what transpired along Edsa propelled Cory to power and the Ninoy Aquino ass@ssination started the downfall of the Marcoses 3 yrs after.
