In his statement, executive secretary of the CBCP permanent committee on public affairs Father Jerome Secillano said church members should let the people vote for the candidate they want. “Because nuns, priests and bishops are voters too, we cannot dictate to them who to vote for. Let the common people choose their candidates while priests and bishops keep their voting preferences private,” said Secillano.
It will be recalled that only recently, 500 priests and nuns expressed support for Presidential Candidate and Vice President Leni Robredo.
The Diocese of Kalookan, Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, who is also president of the CBCP, also gave his "blessing" to local lay groups to support Robredo.

David has yet to make a statement on Secillano's reminder. Meanwhile, the leader of the Catholic group El Shaddai, Bro. Mike Velarde's support for Presidential Candidate Bongbong Marcos was opposed by their spiritual adviser, retired Novaliches Bishop Ted Bacani.
