This was the statement of former President Rodrigo Duterte regarding the issue of the jurisdiction of the International Cri*minal Court (ICC) in the Philippines. Duterte paid tribute to the remains of former President Fidel V. Ramos at Heritage Park.
In an interview with the former president of the republic, he affirmed that he had no problem with the ICC. “I am a Filipino. If I will be prosecuted it will be a prosecutor who is a Filipino. If I will be judged, it will be a Filipino judge. And if I should go to prison, I should go to Muntinlupa. Nobody but nobody else can sa akin. It has to be our or within our jurisdiction,” said Duterte. “Wala, matanda na ako. I’ve no qualms about going to prison. I’m 77, 80. Ano makuha nila sa akin? I can read to d3ath there inside. So many books to read,” added the former President.
Duterte continued, saying that during his six years in office and attending meetings for the Philippines, he had not done many things, so he said he would do them.
Meanwhile, he chose not to comment on President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos' decision not to rejoin the ICC. “I would rather not comment on it actually. I am a civilian, I cannot say anything about it. Tahimik lang muna ako,” said Former President Duterte.
